Diana Maphapho is a highly accomplished makeup artist who is sought after in the fashion, advertising and entertainment industries for her meticulous attention to detail and her professionalism. After obtaining a diploma in make up artistry and design from FACE TO FACE beauty school in Park town, Diana went on to work in retail for MAC COSMETICS as a make up artist, where she was one of the first black make up artists to work on the team. Working on the Mac counter for three years gave her the experience of working with male and female beauty customers from all walks of life and through that she learned how to do beauty makeovers on a variety of races, face shapes, personalities as well as gaining the necessary product knowledge to know what products work best on what skin types.
Since then, Diana’s star really took off as she became a permanent fixture on the trend setting SA FASHION WEEK beauty team, a position she still holds today. Her reputation has continued to steadily rise and her portfolio now includes such huge events like MISS SOUTH AFRICA and MISS SOUTH AFRICA TEEN, FACE OF AFRICA, AFRICA DESIGNER AWARDS, KORA AWARDS, SAMA AWARDS, METRO AWARDS, SAFTA AWARDS and many more. In addition to that, Diana has worked with virtually every South African celebrity on the scene as well as every major international celebrity that has visited our shores in recent years. Her position as one of South Africa’s top makeup artists has recently earned her the prestige of being voted SA’S BEST MAKEUP ARTIST by REVLON COSMETICS. She’s also been recently selected by IMAN cosmetics as one of their Ambassadors in Africa. Diana has also had the pleasure of working with such iconic South African heroes as MR NELSON MANDELA and THABO MBEKI. In fact, Diana played a small but crucial role in South Africa’s recent history. She was the makeup artist who did Thabo Mbeki’s face the day that he delivered his famous resignation speech from his presidency.
Diana’s television work includes doing make up and hair for DTV drama, SABC NEWS and SABC NEWS INTERNATIONAL, during which she has travelled extensively around the country doing makeup on major world politicians, actors and actresses, musicians, artists and sports icons.
She also has worked on MORNING LIVE, WORLD TODAY, INTERFACE and other factual, news and drama programmes. Her reality show experience includes doing makeup for IDOLS SA, SURVIVOR SA, SO U THINK U CAN DANCE SA, STRICTLY COME DANCING SA, POWER OF 10 SA, BIG BROTHER AFRICA and HOD make up and hair for SA’S GOT TALENT.
Diana’s fashion and advertising work includes working on numerous local and international commercials, as well as print and billboard advertising. She has styled numerous fashion ramp shows, corporate events and popular magazines such as ARISE AFRICA, ELLE, “O”, ONE SMALL SEED, COSMOPOLITAN, GLAMOUR, TOP BILLING and more. Her celebrity work includes the like of TAMIA, KELLY ROWLAND, JOCELYN BROWN, INDIA ARIE and supermodel OLUCHI. She has been selected recently to work on the historic 2010 world cup in Southern Africa to do make up for the events happening in the opening and closing match.
