Sydelle Willow Smith

ABOUT SYDELLE:

Sydelle Willow Smith was born in Joburg and began her career documenting youth subculture for Blunt Magazine. After sometime at the documentary photography school The Market Photo Workshop, she moved to Cape Town to focus on a degree in Visual Anthropology and Film. She is the co-founder of the solar powered mobile cinema, Sunshine Cinema and a partner in the production company Makhulu, working as a director, producer and researcher. She has exhibited across Africa, and Europe and was a recipient of the Africa Center Residency award to Jiwar, Barcelona in 2014. Her audience engagement projects as well as her photography work has taken her all over Africa working for a variety of socially focused clients, and recently completed her Masters in African Studies through the University of Oxford.
