Tsele Nthane

Tsele Nthane, an emerging South African analogue photographer based in Cape Town, has gained recognition for his evocative portrayal of human emotions and experiences through his lens. His work, deeply rooted in documentary and photojournalistic styles, captures the essence of contemporary youth culture and diversity across Cape Town’s cityscape. Tsele’s project, Melanateyourmood, initially inspired by a desire to see more representation of Black people in candid photography, has evolved into a profound exploration of emotion and self-identity. His photos, often taken in familiar locations around the city, showcase a unique blend of faces and places, bringing to life the stories of those he photographs. Recently featured in the international publication i-D, Tsele continues to push the boundaries of analogue photography, with plans to further explore this medium through a print zine, aiming to capture the permanence and tactile beauty of printed work.
