Catharina Van Wyk

Based in Cape Town, with a fine arts honours degree I started my career working for Elle Decoration and Elle Magazine. This was my first introduction to the concept of wardrobe styling and set design. In 2008/2009 I started freelancing as a stylist in fashion, retail, advertising and TVC’s. With my art and editorial background I have a very unique way of interpreting and executing briefs. My focus is on quickly adjusting to each brief that comes my way with an understanding of each brand’s narrative.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with a diverse range of brands throughout my career, each offering unique creative challenges and opportunities. Some of the brands I’ve particularly enjoyed collaborating with include those that align with my artistic vision and allow for creative freedom in storytelling.

Working with different brands presents a variety of challenges, such as aligning creative visions, managing tight deadlines, and navigating varying levels of brand identity and expectations. Each collaboration teaches valuable lessons in flexibility and communication. To overcome creative differences with clients, I prioritize open communication and active listening. I ensure to understand their vision while also sharing my perspective. Finding common ground and being flexible often leads to a successful collaboration that satisfies both parties.
